Custom Swiss Machining Services for Precision Components

As an experienced Swiss machine shop, 3ERP provides custom Swiss CNC machining services for precision components across medical, aerospace, electronics, and advanced engineering industries. We manufacture parts from materials including aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, brass, and engineering plastics, supporting projects from prototypes to production runs.

Our Swiss machining capabilities are backed by an ISO 9001 certified quality management system, ensuring consistent performance and reliable part quality. These capabilities are part of our comprehensive CNC machining services for demanding applications.

What is Swiss Machining?

Swiss machining, also known as Swiss-type CNC machining, is a specialized turning process for producing miniature components, typically ranging from 0.5 mm to 38 mm (0.02" to 1.5") in diameter. It is especially effective for parts with high length-to-diameter ratios, thin walls, and intricate geometries where conventional turning may struggle.

Using a sliding headstock and guide bushing system, Swiss machines support the material close to the cutting zone, reducing vibration and deflection for improved accuracy and surface quality. Common applications include screws, shafts, pins, bushings, and connectors.

Swiss CNC Machining Materials

Almost any material suitable for conventional turning or milling can also be processed through Swiss CNC machining. We work with a wide range of metals and engineering plastics to produce reliable precision components for demanding applications.

Swiss Machining Applications

Swiss machining combines advanced processes such as turning, cutting, form turning, threading, knurling, grooving, and drilling to produce high-precision components with small, complex geometries. These capabilities make it widely used in industries where precision, consistency, and reliability are essential for critical components.

Medical

Swiss machining produces complex medical components such as implants, surgical instruments, and bone screws. Its ability to machine titanium and stainless steel makes it ideal for durable, biocompatible medical devices.

Aerospace

Swiss machining enables the production of critical aerospace components, including hydraulic parts, fasteners, connectors, fuel system components, and other essential parts for flight control and structural systems.

Automotive

Swiss machining produces automotive components such as fuel injector parts, valve spools, small shafts, transmissions, and engine components for vehicle systems.

Watchmaking

Swiss machining, originally developed for watchmaking, produces miniature components such as gears, shafts, and mechanisms.

Benefits of Swiss Machining

Compared to other machining processes, Swiss machining offers distinctive advantages in:
Custom aluminum extruded profiles in multiple colors and designs.

High Precision for Small Parts

Guide bushing support minimizes vibration and enables micron-level accuracy. Swiss machining can significantly improve thread accuracy in demanding applications.

Stable Machining of Long Parts

Swiss turning is ideal when conventional lathes cannot maintain stability for long, small-diameter parts. It is especially effective for components with a high length-to-diameter (L/D) ratio, where traditional machining methods may experience excessive deflection.

Complete Parts in One Setup

Advanced Swiss machines integrate turning, milling, drilling, and threading to reduce secondary operations, improve efficiency, and maintain consistent quality.

Superior Surface Finish

Swiss machining achieves excellent surface quality, with demanding applications reaching finishes as fine as Ra 0.2 μm (8 μin) .

Cost-Effective High-Volume Production

For high-volume small parts, Swiss machining improves material utilization by up to 15% and can reduce overall production costs by over 20%.

FAQs

Swiss machining is ideal for small-diameter parts (<Ø5–10 mm), long and slender components, complex multi-feature parts, and high-volume production. For large parts, simple geometries, or early-stage prototypes requiring frequent design changes, conventional CNC turning or milling may provide a more cost-effective solution.

Lead times depend on part complexity, material, and order quantity. Prototype and low-volume projects typically require less time than production runs. Contact us with your project details and delivery requirements for an accurate estimate.

Yes. We offer various secondary processes, including deburring, polishing, anodizing, plating, heat treatment, passivation, and protective coatings to meet specific part requirements.
