EXCERPT

Vacuum Casting is a very diverse method of replicating objects. It can be used for both the casting or prototypes or mass production of distributable products.

ARTICLE

Vacuum Casting may be used with a multitude of materials. This method of casting is typically made polyurethane prototype parts in a timely manner. A wide variety of textures, rigidity, strength, hardness or softness may be produced with this manufacturing technique. The parts are usually made with polyurethane resins because it can emulate the texture of other materials. The molds are typically made out of silicone and may even be produced with a 3D printer.

A mold is placed within a vacuum chamber. The material needs to be degassed prior to placing within the mold. The vacuum then is activated, making an airtight object that is very precise to the design of the mold. Immediately after, the item is then cured in a high heat oven prior to the removal of the mold. The mold is then reused if they are not cracked in the curing process.

Casting with Rubber/Elastomers

Rubber is one of the most flexible materials that may be used with casting. It is ideal for seals or gaskets since it is very tear resistant. For these reasons, rubber is such a popular material for replicated goods. It is also one of the cheapest and widely available classes of substances. UPX8400, F126, and F141 are examples of industrial rubber labels.

Durable Polycarbonates

Polycarbonates are a popular option in casting when high shock resistance is needed. It is able to withstand extremely high or low temperatures. It also comes in an appealing translucence appearance.

What Vacuum Casting Is Capable Of

The automotive industry takes advantage of VC for mass producing a variety of auto parts. Fittings and fixtures of multiple materials are made to fit any type of automobile.
